hello and welcome...I’m a Sydney-based Australian writer who since the late 70s has built up a long list across (eleven) books, television, journalism, CD productions, all sorts of stuff, mainly on local music, popular culture and social history. This old-skool site is a guide through that stuff – a combination storefront/archive/journal/laboratory, with a NEWS feed as close as I get to despotic social media. The archival BACKPAGES and RE-MIXED sections amount to a veritable database going even deeper into (mainly Australian) music (history). I’m too old to be an enfant terrible, but with the way I still seem to be able to court controversy, I must be some sort of loose cannon! Have a look around, enjoy; link further to the standalone BURIED COUNTRY site too…
NEWSJULY 2023: In addition to having just signed a contract with Bloomsbury to write an entry on Saturday Night Fever for the great 33.1/3 series of books about albums, I am delighted to announce that Australia’s NFSA (National Film & Sound Archive) is ‘re-releasing’ the Buried Country documentary film. It was (re-)launched as part of the Buwindja Collection during NAIDOC Week, on July 7 - see preview here - and will thereafter be available again to broadcasters and other platforms. For more go to the News feed here.
