LOVE IS IN THE AIR (2003)
After the enormous success of Long Way to the Top, the team that produced it, which included me, presented two new follow-up ideas to the bosses at ABC-TV. One was Bombora, a history of Australian surfing, and the other was Golden Miles, based on my book of the same name that I was then starting work on. They were both laughed out of the office, and the team was set to making Love is in the Air, which as far as I can tell was meant to be a female-skewed pop companion piece to Long Way…. It was nowhere near as good as Long Way… because, I think, it was so forced. And in fact it was the beginning of my end at the ABC. I got screwed on Love is…, or very dicked around at the least, and after a certain point I refused to have anything more to do with it, which is why the book based on so many of my interviews wasn’t written by me but rather Toby Creswell. I handballed it to him because I didn’t want to know about it. The ABC's archived website on the show can be found here
