The new BURIED COUNTRY is starting to get out there and about a bit, especially in Australia, where it has even been sighted in bookshops. There are two other exciting announcements that can also be made... |
1) MELBOURNE LAUNCH: The book will enjoy a Melbourne launch in tandem with a screening of the film at the Spotted Mallard in Brunswick on March 25, as part of the pub’s program of ‘Mallard Movie Nights’, in which, in association with PBS 106.7FM, they put on, for free, a music film every last Wednesday in the month (only wish I could be there for A Band Called Death on February 25!). The lovely folks at PBS were so enthusiastic about receiving the new edition of the book that I was immediately ushered into the virtual studio to do an interview with Maddy Macfarlane for her wonderful Homebrew show, and next thing I knew she and the rest of the PBS crew had got together with the crew from the fabulous Mallard and the gig was set – all I had to do was say yes. Which was easy. 2) NEW CD: As well as that, I’m extremely excited to say that Warner Music, with whom I have a bit of form having co-produced the Silver Roads set a couple of years ago, have committed to producing a new ‘refreshed’ version of the Buried Country CD. The album got lost in the crossfire and fell out of print in 2005 when Warners bought up Festival-Mushroom (whose old Larrikin imprint originally released it); but it’s the album as much as the book that people have never stopped telling me they wanted. So that’s why I’m doubly delighted to be starting work on getting it back in print again. What the term ‘refreshed’ means is that the new (2CD) set will pluck out the best of the original set, plus add a whole slew of new tracks, in effect the best of the rest that’s come out over the past fifteen years since 2000. And I have to say, I’m very excited to be previewing so much of that material, so much of which sounds so good. Like, for example, this track posted here, which is just one among many that I trust we can license in order to include it on the collection: |
